Grand Re-Opening
The Arts Center of Hartwell Adds Flair to Downtown
With initial renovations to the art gallery complete, the Arts Center of Hartwell recently held a grand re-opening to a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters.
The Arts Center was temporarily closed in 2023 in order to raise fund to replace the historical building’s roof truss system and roof. The community raised $50,000 last year towards construction costs and the center was also awarded a reimbursement grant of another $50,000 from Georgia Council for the Arts.
In 2023 alone, the community raised $50,000 towards the re-opening of the building. The Arts Center was also awarded a reimbursement grant of another $50,000 from Georgia Council for the Arts. A huge thank you to the Arts Center members, board, volunteers, and community for helping in these generous fundraising efforts and donations.
Lauren Peacock is the Executive Director, and she has great reason to be very optimistic about the future here. “We’ve attracted roughly 400 talented artists from all over NE Georgia and beyond, as well as several gifted local artists,” she said. “We will reopen our Mistletoe Market in late November and also have plans for a formal black-tie art auction in early January. So we’re very excited about the momentum we’re creating!”
The Arts Center will continue to support a wide range of arts, including but not limited to painting, drawing, writing, chorus, music, photography, pottery, graphic arts, flower arranging, plant pressing, woodworking, metalworks, fiber, as well as classes, performances and workshops. Programming and class details will be released at a later date.
Projects like the Connections Mosaic illustrate a strong local dedication to the community, bringing artists and the public together. The Connections Mosaic is a collaborative creation of regional artists, showcasing 400 unique canvases at each of the Arts Center receptions throughout the region. Art lovers can donate $35 for one canvas, or $90 for three. The canvases will be chosen at random after the Connections Mosaic has completed its tour. All proceeds will benefit The Arts Center of Hartwell.
The Arts Center of Hartwell supports all facets of the arts for the Northeast Georgia community. From contracting exhibits, performances, and workshops, our goal is to promote art education, enjoyment, and enrichment in Hart County, Georgia, and the surrounding areas. The Arts Center of Hartwell is a non-profit, 501(c)3, run by the Hart Regional Arts Council.
This program is supported in part by Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. Georgia Council for the Arts also receives support from its partner agency – the National Endowment for the Arts.
