If you’re looking for a unique idea for a group outing or family reunion, you need to check out this group campground on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina.
Crescent Group Campground: A Private Island Getaway
Accessible only by a narrow strip of road, this campground essentially sits on its own private island. In the center of the crescent a peaceful cove, private beach, and playground area make this the perfect place to spend a few days with your closest family and friends.
When you book both sites at Crescent Group Campground, you’re reserving 32 campsites on two arms of a crescent shaped peninsula on Lake Hartwell. Each of the 32 sites can host up to 10 campers.
So gather up to 320 of your closest friends and tell them to bring their tents and campers for a weekend filled with fishing, swimming, and bonding.

Each campsite has 50 amp electric hookups, grills, a fire ring, and running water. There are 10 campsites on loop A and 22 on larger loop B. All 32 sites share 2 restroom facilities (one with showers, one without), 2 picnic shelters, a firepit, and a playground for the little ones.
You can bring a camper up to 40 feet long or pitch your tents on the included gravel camp pads. Lake access surrounds the sites but there’s no dock or boat ramp within the campsite.
Events on Crescent Island
Can you imagine renting this campground and having the beach all to yourself? You could be fishing in quiet serenity right off the beach or roasting marshmallows with just your closest loved ones.

Maybe you’d like to host a birthday party, a rustic wedding weekend, or set up base camp for football games at nearby Clemson University.
The campground is managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers so you can expect it to be updated, clean, and safe. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed, and noise restrictions are in place from 10 pm to 6 am (see all rules here).
So this isn’t the place to throw a rager, but if your group isn’t the rowdy type you’ll have plenty to keep everyone entertained.

Plan to book months in advance as this is a popular place to host events. Reservations are opened in February of each year, so keep an eye on their site for the first day you can reserve this private space.
It is often reserved by churches and youth groups, but this location is available on a first come, first served basis. So, if you’re willing to foot the entire $448 nightly fee, you can have this entire island all to yourself.
