Wondering what’s going on around Lake Hartwell over Memorial Day weekend? Besides tons of boating and fishing, there are several events around or a short drive from the lake.

Events in Hartwell, Ga May 24-26, 2019

Lake Hartwell’s namesake town offers many things to do on the Georgia side of the lake, but they really go all out over Memorial Day Weekend hosting visitors with two annual events.


The annual Cars and Guitars event in Hartwell, Ga always draws a big crowd. Encircling the square downtown, you’ll find classic cars, music, and local artisan vendors. Plenty of food and fun for the kids as well. The event lasts from 10 am to 2 pm.

One of the most exciting events over Memorial Day Weekend at Lake Hartwell is the epic Lake Hartwell Music Festival. Enjoy live music from 8 bands, food and retail vendors, family activities, and crafts all happening lakeside. Festivities take place at the Long Point Megaramp at the end of Old 29.

The first band goes on at 1:00 p.m and it all ends with the Tom Petty Tribute band playing ’till 10 pm. If you’re coming by land, be sure to bring chairs and a cooler (no glass allowed). Already on the lake? Boaters are welcome to join the party from the water!

Events in Clemson, SC May 24-26, 2019

Over on the South Carolina side of the lake, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. Whether you’re looking for a quiet day enjoying nature or a loud and proud Scottish festival, you’re sure to find something to make the family happy.


Learn about birding with the South Carolina Botanical Garden. A guide will give you a tour of the garden and point out local bird species. Binoculars are provided, but you may also bring your own.

Friday evening, head over to Nettles Park (Greer Field) for a movie and family games on the lawn. Make sure to BYOC – bring your own chair 🙂 There isn’t any seating provided.

The Botanical Garden Insect Discovery day is on Saturday where families can discover life cycles and habits of bees, butterflies, beetles and more! Clemson Entymology club and Master Naturalists will be on hand to answer questions.

Ever wondered how they used to build log cabins? Craftsman Rick Owens will be demonstrating how to split a shingle, use hand tools and more.

Events in Anderson, SC May 24-26, 2019


Kick off your weekend with some yoga in Wren park, downtown Anderson. Anderson Yoga Center is hosting free group yoga instruction in the park at 7 pm. Bring a mat, towel, and water to participate.

Join Whitken & Co at The Robert Lee Robertson House from 6-8pm for a workshop to build your own terrarium. A second workshop is scheduled for Saturday morning at 10 am.

Long Creek Music Festival kicks off Friday night. They describe their event as having an intimate setting and featuring artists that are masters of their craft. Get your tickets here.

Join in a bass fishing tournament at Green Pond Event Center. The tournament is hosted by the Clemson Bass Fishing Team and runs from 6 am – 3 pm. First place prize is $1000!

Visit Twin Creeks Lavender Farm and pick your own bouquet of beautiful, fragrant lavender blooms. While you’re there be sure to stop in their shop filled with homemade lavender products.

Saturday evening wind down with some fine dining at the Al Fresco Gala at Federal Street. An exclusive menu with food and brew pairings from local restaurants and breweries. Get your tickets.

After dinner, take in a show at The Market Theatre Company. Memorial Day weekend, they have several showings of Bonnie & Clyde, a musical with a rockabilly and blues flair.

Events in Greenville, SC May 24-26, 2019


Have a blast with your friends and family at the Greenville Scottish Games. Partake in sheep herding competitions, antique cars, and Celtic rock bands.  The main event is on Saturday, but they’re also parading through downtown Greenville Friday night.

It’s Memorial Day weekend! Continue the party with a comedy show and have brunch at Ink N Ivy. Seating opens at 11 am. Order from their full brunch menu and treat yourself to one of their drink specials.
